St John's to represent City

CITC trophy

CITC trophy

Twenty-eight schools embarked on the Trafford Soccer Dome to compete in the annual Premier League Primary Schools tournament and St John's, Chorlton came out on top.

Pupils and teachers from across Manchester travelled in the hope of taking the CITC- hosted trophy back to their school with the prize of representing City at the regional finals next year.

Schools competed in the six-a-side competition in a group format.  Each was strongly contested, with St Catherine’s and Parkview Community showing some early form.

After close semi-finals and a few tears, St John’s Primary School of Chorlton and Cavendish Primary School, from Didsbury, went head-to-head in an enthralling final.

St John’s ran out 2-1 winners and now have the opportunity to represent City against United, Blackburn and Everton next April in the north-west regional finals.

During the afternoon of football, CITC staged penalty shoot-outs and a kick-up challenge competition, which was won by Jake Smith of Barlow Hall with 35 consecutive kick-ups.

More than 200 children took part to help make the afternoon a huge success - the football was of a good standard, with some individual flair and great team performances. The website will report on how St John’s progress next year.
