Take a detailed look at City's new 2018/19 away kit.
Drawing inspiration from a key moment in the Club’s history, the 2018/19 away kit features a dark blue shirt with field blue and luminous yellow pin stripes down the front and back, alongside dark blue shorts. Luminous volt coloured socks with dark blue band around the shin complete a fresh and modern looking kit for the League champions.
Design creative comes from the 1998/9 away shirt which was worn when City memorably beat Gillingham in the Second Division play-off final at Wembley to make an immediate return to Division One. After being 2-0 down at the end of normal time, City scored two dramatic injury time goals and then went on to win the match on penalties. The match is seen by many of as the start of the modern day revival of the Club.
Nike has incorporated a high-tech support within the jerseys and socks to allow athletes to perform at maximum potential. The shirt features an anti-cling material which avoids kit sticking to the body, keeping players cool throughout matches.
The socks feature a “Super-lock” grip system with a compressed sleeve meaning the calf is supported and shin guards are locked in on the socks. In addition, socks will be 40% lighter when wet and 9% lighter when dry enhancing performance on pitch.
Alongside Manchester City players, the kit is launched by four participants from the City in the Community programme in New York - Tahir, Eddie, Bonfillio and Shaeline.
The new kit will be worn for the first time during the Club’s US pre-season tours – the women when they play against Lyon in Miami on 26th July and the men against Liverpool in New York on 25th July.
