As Britain celebrates the Diamond Jubilee, we take a look at key moments of Queen Elizabeth II's reign. The Silver Jubilee in 1977 was celebrated by street parties across the country.

1977 also saw punk rock and the Sex Pistols enter the national zeitgeist as a reaction to the national patriotic ferver. In a year when strikes, inflation and the Yorkshire Ripper dominated the newspaper headlines, the summer celebrations provided welcome relief.
