The trophy tour, sponsored regionally by Marathonbet and Star Beer, started with an exclusive event with the Official Supporters Club. Fans had the chance to take pictures with the trophies but also to meet Club Legend Micah Richards. Three members of the Supporters Club also presented their “wow moments” to Micah, with one fan recalling how he travelled to the Etihad only to have to race home to Nigeria when his wife went into labour.
On Saturday the 31st of October, as City was playing Brighton at the Etihad Stadium, a mini-Etihad Stadium was created in Lagos to give the fans the chance to experience a match day like in Manchester. Fans got the chance to hear from Micah Richards, who correctly predicted the match result, and all six trophies were on display all day for photos.
More than 200 fans attended the event as City won 4-0 against the Seagulls and all celebrated this great result in style.
It was also the occasion to connect with our partners on the ground, Premier Cool, STAR Beer and Marathonbet, and bring the trophies to their guests as each of them organised VIP events.
The trophies and Micah Richards ended the journey in Lagos with a visit to the British Council on Sunday 1st of September to meet the coaches and children of their Premier Skills programme.
Slightly star struck today when football legend @MicahRichards came with the SIX trophies @ManCity won in his time. He was impressed by the skills of the #Lagos @PremierSkills players and by the programme’s success in getting young people back on the right track #SportisGREAT 🇬🇧 pic.twitter.com/oYaLcfnV1F— Harriet Thompson (@HCThompson001) September 1, 2019
A wonderful meeting as the children shared with Micah their stories on how football has changed their life.
Manchester City silverwares and Micah Richards continued their journey and headed to the UAE to meet more fans!
