City reveal lasting Kompany tributes
Manchester City have unveiled a lasting tribute to Vincent Kompany in recognition of the legendary captain’s unrivalled achievements and contribution to the Club.

The road connecting the City Football Academy youth and community pitches with the Club’s First Team Centre has been renamed ‘Vincent Kompany Crescent’ and is marked by a mosaic inspired by Vincent’s unforgettable goal celebration in the 2012 Manchester derby.

Taking place before his testimonial game, the unveiling was attended by Vincent, his close family members and the Board of Manchester City and was conducted by Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

The Chairman revealed the Club has also begun the process of commissioning a sculpture to publicly recognise and celebrate Vincent’s achievements and contributions to Manchester City.

When completed the sculpture will take pride of place outside the Etihad Stadium.

Kompany’s contribution to Manchester City is unparalleled.

On the field, he led the team through its most transformative period, making 360 appearances and securing more trophies than any other captain in the Club’s history.

An integral part of the squad that ended City’s 35-year wait for a trophy with the 2011 FA Cup, he went on to lead the team to four Premier League titles, four League Cups and two Community Shields.

He brought the curtain down on his time in Manchester with a second FA Cup to complete an unprecedent clean sweep of domestic silverware in his final season.

Off the field, his contribution to Manchester City and the city of Manchester is no less impressive.

His support of the Club’s charitable and community initiatives was unfailing, whilst he has also dedicated all proceeds of his testimonial year – through his campaign Tackle4MCR – to the Greater Manchester Mayor’s Homelessness Fund.

Club ambassador Mike Summerbee will present Vincent with his own replica mosaic and lifetime season card on the pitch ahead of this evening’s testimonial.

Manchester City Chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, said: “Vincent is a special figure in the history of Manchester City Football Club. He is not only an inspirational and resolute leader on the pitch, but an impeccable and articulate ambassador off it.

"His contribution will be remembered for generations to come, by supporters of our club and the wider football community who rightly recognise Vincent as one of the iconic Premier League figures of his generation.

Vincent Kompany Crescent and, on its completion, his sculpture will serve as ongoing testament to the standards he set and the incredible impact he has had on the Club and its community.”

Kompany added: “It is an incredible honour to be recognised by this special Club in this way.

“The journey that we went on together throughout my 11-years in Manchester changed my life and I am delighted to have played my small part in altering the course of this Club’s history during that time.

“To establish a permanent, physical connection with a place that will forever mean so much to me is truly humbling and I will always be grateful to Sheikh Mansour, Khaldoon Al Mubarak and all those associated with City for their unwavering support and kindness.”
