The Manchester FA has announced a new annual award in recognition of Bernard Halford.

Bernard, who passed away earlier this year aged 77, was Club secretary at City for almost 40 years having previously held the same role at Oldham Athletic, and served as Manchester FA’s Representative to The FA for 11 years from 2005-16.

Such was his impact, the Manchester FA has now decided to launch the Bernard Halford Club Secretary of the Year award, with an appointed panel of Bernard’s friends and colleagues shortlisting nominees and choosing an overall winner.

Speaking at the Manchester FA's 19th Annual General Meeting, Colin Bridgford, CEO at Manchester FA, explained: “Bernard was an incredible servant to football at all levels in the area and we wanted to recognise his commitment by naming a new, special award after him.

"We felt it was the perfect time to share this news as we reflected on a fantastic season of football at our AGM this evening and it is very pleasing to see such a positive response from all those in attendance tonight, some of who were personal friends of Bernard.”
