As Premier League champions Manchester City step up preparations for the new season and the defence of their title, Nike Football today reveals the new 2018/19 away kit.
Drawing inspiration from a key moment in the Club’s history, the 2018/19 away kit features a dark blue shirt with field blue and luminous yellow pin stripes down the front and back, alongside dark blue shorts.
Luminous volt coloured socks with dark blue band around the shin complete a fresh and modern looking kit for the Premier League champions.
Design creative comes from the 1998/9 away shirt which was worn when City memorably beat Gillingham in the Second Division play-off final at Wembley to make an immediate return to Division One.
After being 2-0 down at the end of normal time, City scored two dramatic injury-time goals and then went on to win on penalties. The match is seen by many of as the start of the modern day revival of the Club.
Alongside Manchester City players, the kit is launched by four participants from the City in the Community programme in New York - Taher, Eddie, Bonfilio and Shaeline.
The four were all participants in the original City in the Community programme in New York, which started in 2010 when Manchester City dedicated a rooftop pitch at Lexington Academy, where they attended school. From this moment, they were inspired to play football and are still members of the community programmes in New York.
The new kit will be worn for the first time during the Club’s US pre-season tours – the women when they play against against Lyon in Miami on 26th July, and the men against Liverpool in New York on 25th July.
