Cityzens Sunday: fun, games, silverware and stars!

CFA: The fans explore the facilities here at the City Football Academy

CFA: The fans explore the facilities here at the City Football Academy

This year’s Cityzens Sunday was better than ever!

Even the wet weather couldn’t deter City supporters, who packed the CFA to enjoy a day of activities and get a glimpse of our first-team stars.

Fans had the chance to get a picture with the Premier League and Carabao Cup trophies - and listen to discussions with ex-players such as Michael Brown, Keith Curle and Jon Macken.

Our indoor pitch was open, too – and youngsters were invited to take part in a series of football games and activities.

The first six episodes of the new Amazon documentary – All or Nothing: Man City – were screened in the press conference theatre, with as much popcorn as you could eat handed out to all those in attendance.

And there was live music throughout the day as fans dined in the communal eating area outside the Academy building.

But the centrepiece event was the opening training session on the Academy Stadium pitch.

The squad, introduced onto the field individually, posed with a group of young competition winners for a team photo, before signing autographs for fans, as Blues - young and old - waited patiently to meet their heroes.

The players who started yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Wolves did some light running before leaving for treatment, while those not involved stayed and were put through their paces under the watchful eye of the manager.

A series of Rondos and passing drills started the session – before a seven-a-side game, with coach Mikel Arterta operating in a midfield role for both teams, took centre stage.

It was a fascinating insight into how the manager prepares his players for top-level football.

And then City took on Leicester Women at the Academy Stadium in the Continental Cup and won 4-0, thanks to goals from Tessa Wullaert (2), Janine Beckie and Nadia Nadim. The result means City top of the Continetal Cup Group One North.

It was a brilliant, action-packed day that allowed fans a rare glimpse into the goings on here at the CFA.

Until next year!
