Manchester City and Etihad Airways are proud to present City2City, a new documentary series focusing on the power of grassroots football across the world.
It’s no exaggeration to say football is the most beloved sport on the planet. Played and watched the world over, it seems that we can’t get enough of the beautiful game, yet we all know it’s about much more than modern stadiums and glistening trophies.
In this series, we’ll shine a light on four very different human stories in Beijing, New York, Mumbai and Paris, demonstrating the power of football as a force for good no matter where you’re from.
Former City favourite and Chinese international Sun Jihai features in the first episode as we follow Huang and Ding, the two young men who’ve broken social convention to take enormous risks with their futures.
To grow the game across Beijing, they’ve set up their own league. They now find themselves in the compromising position of being friends and colleagues off the pitch and bitter rivals on it.
This episode focuses on their friendship, family and challenges they’ve faced in evolving the sport they love.
Speaking after meeting the pair, Sun Jihai said: “Maybe grassroots football could produce a future superstar.”
You can watch the Beijing episode from Thursday on mancity.com/city2city. Keep your eyes peeled for future episodes between now and the end of the season.
