The Hackathon is underway!

#HackMCFC is here!

The highly anticipated #HackMCFC has arrived and this weekend over 60 participants from the fields of tech, data and digital product design are at the City Football Academy getting to grips with exclusive data sets provided by Opta and ChyronHego.

The group of successful participants were selected from a pool of almost 400 applications and will spend the weekend analysing data from Manchester City’s first ten games of the 15/16 Premier League season.

The Club hope to uncover a breadth of new insights this weekend as they test the skills and talents of the ‘hackers’ with a variety of challenges that look to develop methods of enhancing player performance.

The event kicked off at the CFA on Friday night with an introduction to City Football Services, who support the staff and players with footballing IP and “know-how” at not only Manchester City, but also New York City FC, Melbourne City and Yokohama f-Marinos.

Following the opening event, they all got together for a team building exercise with City in the Community’s Disability Co-ordinator Paul Kelly, who introduced them to the One City Disability programme. The players took a whack at blind football and football for the hearing impaired, learning how to play football in a whole new way.

The hacking has now begun and tomorrow everyone will present their ideas to our panel of experienced judges and it’s anyone’s ball game.
