Supporter Clubs celebrated at Cityzens Weekend

Cityzens Weekend Supporters Club Tournament

Cityzens Weekend Supporters Club Tournament

As a celebration of all things City, Cityzens Weekend was certainly one to remember for everyone connected with the Club.

Central to this landmark event - and indeed to Manchester City - were our Official Supporter Clubs, who played their part in what was a fantastic occasion for fans.

With a new badge and new manager, Cityzens Weekend was heralded as the start of a new era, but there was still time to reflect on the contribution of our supporters clubs.

Our four longest established branches took centre stage on the Saturday as the Club recognised their hard work and commitment with a special presentation.

The Blue Moon Tavern was the setting as Tony Book and Trevor Sinclair presented bespoke recognition plaques to the Brooks Bar, London, Middleton and Dukinfield branches.

It was a memorable moment, with Bill Patterson of the Middleton branch commenting: “We were thrilled with the presentation plaque and it will have pride of place at all our future meetings.”

Our supporters clubs’ involvement in the weekend wasn’t only confined to the CFA and we were delighted the Shenzhen Blues and our Melbourne branch were able to join us via Skype.

Linking live to McCawleys in Shenzhen – the branch’s official venue – our Chinese followers joined us for ‘Our goal was to stop their goals’, were City’s defensive legends chatted to fans about their time in the blue shirt.

Similarly, fans in Australia took part in ‘The one moment that will stay with you?’, as a host of former Blues recalled the most memorable moments of their City careers.

The Melbourne branch gathered at their ‘home’ at the Imperial Hotel and Branch Secretary, Stephen Bardsley was delighted to have the opportunity to join the celebrations.

He said: “It was great for the Melbourne supporters to be able to participate in the Cityzens weekend via Skype and to welcome Pep Guardiola and the new badge.

“We had a great turn out at the Imperial for the event and were delighted to receive the supporters club plaque.”

Our Chadderton branch also enjoyed their own special moment as they had the honour of meeting City legend Uwe Rosler, who presented the champions of our first Official Supporters Club football tournament with their trophy.

11 supporters clubs took part in the competition, including one from Belgium, as they followed in the footsteps of their heroes and took the field at the CFA to cap a brilliant weekend.

Fans had the opportunity to find out more about what it means to be part of a supporters club, as General Secretary of Manchester City’s Supporters Club, Kevin Parker, shared his experiences in the CFA Hub.
