City unveil 2016/17 away kit

Past meets present with the new Manchester City away kit, which combines the Club’s rich history with cutting edge performance technology.

This season, Pep Guardiola’s team will wear a predominantly black kit, with red detailing and flashes of yellow, on their travels.

Inspired by the iconic red and black striped away kit of the 1960s, both colours return to City’s change strip for the first time since the unforgettable 2011/12 title winning season.

The 2016/17 instalment also includes a Manchester icon, with the yellow detailing referencing the worker bee, which has been synonymous with the City of Manchester since the Industrial Revolution and has featured on the city’s coat of arms since 1842. 

As a nod to the bee’s eye-catching stripes, vibrant yellow detailing, including a reimagined version of the new club crest, embellish our new away kit’s distinctive black body and red shoulder and sleeves.

As with the 2016/17 home kit, the alternate also has two tributes knitted into the design: the word “City” at the back of the collar, and, on the inside of the cuffs, “Est. 1894” feature as another reminder of the club’s storied history and reference to the new badge.

This new kit represents a proud symbol of the club and has also been designed with the latest speed-enhancing Nike innovations in performance technology, fabric construction and moisture management.

The advanced performance technology in the kit is visible on the chest, where engineered knit zones create a geometric pattern that enhances fit with smaller mesh shapes at the bottom of the graphic.

The sides of the kit feature a red stripe that runs the length of the shirt and shorts. Expanding when the player is in motion, the stripe maximizes ventilation and reveals a subtle underlying yellow. 

Yellow socks, with a black linear graphic on the calf, showcase the kit’s primary accent colour and accentuate speed.

The new Manchester City away kit and training wear is available to pre-order now at mancity.com/shop and will officially go on sale on Thursday 4 August.

Nike AeroSwift Technology

The most technologically advanced kits to date, Nike Vapor kits with AeroSwift technology are 10% lighter, with 50% more stretch than the kits they replace. They employ a new, textured high-performance yarn that wicks sweat from the skin 20% faster than Nike’s most recent football kits, while also drying 25% faster. Additionally, both the shirt and shorts are constructed using a new knitting process that integrates single and double knit to enhance breathability, stretch and fit.

This season Manchester City will wear a new range of training apparel with same Aeroswift technology as in its match day kit.

The range consists of Strike tops, shorts and pants featuring Nike’s signature innovations for the ultimate in fit, comfort and agility.

Commitment to Sustainability

Nike leverages sustainable innovation for its football kits through the use of recycled polyester, delivering unrivaled performance and lower environmental impact.

The kit’s shirt and shorts are constructed with recycled polyester fabric, which is made from recycled plastic bottles melted down to produce a fine yarn.

Each kit is made using approximately 16 recycled plastic bottles. Since 2010, Nike has diverted more than three billion plastic bottles from landfills into recycled polyester, enough to cover about 5,200 football pitches.
