City Football Schools' ongoing commitment to grow and inspire the next generation of footballers globally, saw them offer two programmes during the close season, which utilised the fantastic facilities at the Etihad Campus.
As part of the City Football Language School, more than 330 young players arrived at the Club’s headquarters, to live and train like their City heroes.
Now in its second year, the Language School welcomed youngsters aged 9-17 years, from more than 49 different countries across the globe, as part of a series of two week programs to develop their football skills and English language understanding.
Participants were given a rare insight in to what it takes to be a footballer, with a series of off-the-field workshops in areas such as media training and match analysis, which aimed to develop their communication skills and transfer their learning onto the training pitches.
This year and for the first time ever, the City Football Language School offered a course exclusively for girls, with youngsters hoping to emulate the stars of the FA WSL coming from around the world to develop their game.
With the FA WSL season in full swing, there were plenty of opportunities to learn from the professionals as they watched Nick Cushing’s MCWFC squad train at CFA before seeing them in action against Sunderland at the Academy Stadium.
City and England captain Steph Houghton capped a memorable two weeks for the girls by taking part in an exclusive Q&A session and sharing her experiences of her own journey to the top of the women’s game.
The City Football Performance Program was the second course to make its debut this summer. Aimed at young players looking to take their game to the next level, this innovative program focused on how City players from Academy through to First Team develop to play at the peak of their ability.
Split into the three key elements of human performance, football performance and the development of talent, players went behind-the-scenes at the CFA to gain a greater understanding into the range of work that goes into ensuring players are equipped to perform at their optimum level.
Combining video footage with an online evaluation tool allowed players to be truly integrated into their personal development and provided an in depth understanding of their current ability and where and how they can improve.
The youngsters received an all-encompassing modern football education and took part in sessions focusing on nutrition, strength and conditioning, and psychology as well as a series of physical tests to provide each player with individual data and feedback, and give them a reference point for the next steps of their development.
City Football Schools are now giving individuals the opportunity to train at CFA and have also introduced a new program, giving teams from as far afield as the USA the opportunity to take part in their own exclusive coaching sessions for an experience which will hopefully bring them closer together as a unit.
