Etihad Stadium to host England friendly

Manchester City are delighted to announce England will play at the Etihad Stadium as part of their preparations for Euro 2016.

Roy Hodgson and his team are set to face Turkey at the home of the Blues on Sunday 22 May (kick off time TBC), in the first of three friendlies before this summer’s tournament in France.

The Three Lions have also announced games against Australia and Portugal, which will be played at the Stadium of Light and Wembley Stadium respectively.

Having qualified from Group A as the best third-placed team, Euro 2016 will be Turkey's first major tournament for eight years and the FA were keen to play teams who would present a similar test to the one they'll face in France.

Commenting on the opposition, Hodgson said: “I’m happy that we have been able to secure three challenging opponents that will help us prepare for the tournament.

“Since the Euro Group Draw in Paris last December, The FA has worked hard to put together a programme of games around the country and we’re looking forward to playing in the north-west and north-east of the country before the final home game at Wembley.”

With the manager planning to announce his final 23-man squad before the end of the Premier League season, the Etihad friendly is the perfect opportunity to see how the team might line up before their Euro 2016 campaign kicks off against Russia.

This is the first time since 2004 that the national team have played at Manchester City, when the Club hosted back to back friendlies against Japan and Iceland.

Then, a 1-1 draw preceded a 6-1 demolition of the Nordics and supporters will be hoping England can maintain their unbeaten record at the Stadium.

Priority tickets will go on sale to England Supporters Club members from Monday 14 March. For your best chance to access tickets, join now at www.EnglandSupportersClub.com.
