Hatton's perfect homecoming

Ricky Hatton 2008

Ricky Hatton 2008

Ricky Hatton marked his Homecoming in the best way possible with a unanimous points win over Juan Lazcano on Saturday night.

The Hitman emerged to the strains of ‘Blue Moon’ to the delight of a sell-out 55,000 crowd inside the City of Manchester Stadium, who had earlier watched Paulie Malignaggi retain the IBF light-welterweight title to set up a possible future fight with Hatton.

Ricky was always in control of his bout with the tough and durable Mexican, and each judge marked him down as the clear winner.

Speaking immediately after the fight, Ricky thanked the fans for their vociferous support throughout the 12 rounds, saying:

“I’ve never been as nervous before a fight, but these fans brought me through. There’s a lot of talk about who is the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world, but I know who the best pound-for-pound fans are – it’s you lot!”

Congratulations to Ricky from everyone at Manchester City FC!
