Goodnight!

A frustrating evening for City as we start our 2025/26 WSL campaign with a slender defeat to the reigning WSL champions.

We battled until the end and, on another day, convert at least one of our other chances and take home at least a point.

As the boss said, plenty of things to work on and lots of confidence to take from this evening, even if it stings now.

Thank you for your company - make sure to keep across mancity.com and the official Man City app for plenty of reaction tonight.

See you at our home opener against Brighton on Friday 12 September!

Jeglertz on Greenwood and Murphy 🗣

"I don't know anything [on Alex]. She needed to go off because she had some feelings in her leg. We just need to sort it out how it goes."

"No I haven’t seen her [Lily] yet. She went up just before the game ended, so I need to find her now. She was obviously very sad and in a lot of pain."

Jeglertz reaction 🗣

"It didn’t happen, but when we analyse the game after, there are lots of things we can bring with us that shows we’re challenging Chelsea during the whole game.

"There’s a lot of things, especially the high press, we did that in the second half many times."

More from Kerstin 🗣

"There are 21 games to go. We stay calm and build on this. It’s a long season, we’re excited to be at home next week against Brighton and see all the fans."

Kerstin Casparij reaction 🗣

"I think we played well and unfortunately weren’t able to finish it off. There are lots of things to review and learn off, and now onto Brighton.

"That’s what we want to do, create chances and get into the final third.

"I think we can improve in the last pass and cross, getting Bunny into more scoring positions as well, but again there are lots of things we can train on.

"It’s the first game of the season, we’ve got to keep calm."

A tough one to take, but we can hold our heads high.

Reaction to follow

A tough one to take for the visitors, who battled until the end and were unlucky not to take at least a point back to Manchester.

Worrying end to the game for City with both Greenwood and Murphy brought off through injury, but hopefully neither are too serious.

Stay tuned for plenty of reaction to our WSL opener.
