The lie of the land 🔢

It’s a big day of action in the WSL with leaders Chelsea and high flying Arsenal also in action later on today.

Chelsea currently lead the way on 24 points from nine games.

United and Arsenal both have 21 from eight games while we are currently in fourth with 18 points also from eight games.

Today's round of matches are the final league matches of the year, though we do have a Continental Cup trip to Leicester next weekend.

A positive result this afternoon would really put us in superb position ahead of the resumption of league action after the Christmas break.

Early team news 🗒

We will get confirmed team news at 11.30am but City manager Gareth Taylor provided the latest fitness update at Friday’s pre-match press conference.

The boss said he was fully expecting Lauren Hemp and Vicky Losada to be available for the derby

Hemp, a three-time PFA Young Player of the Year, has been struggling with a thigh issue since the start of November but came on for the final 20 minutes of our Continental Cup win over Liverpool in midweek.

Taylor said she was in a 'good place' ahead of the United clash.

He said: "Lauren’s fine. She’s in a good place.

"You saw when she came on, she was confident and contributed within a couple of minutes with an assist for Mary. She’s in a good place."

Spanish star Losada, who hasn’t played since our 6-0 Continental Cup win over Blackburn in October, is also fit and raring to go.

The manager added: "Vicky trained fully yesterday and looked really good. We’ll see.”

A good luck message from Pep ...

Winter warmer

Now you don’t need me to tell you it’s a tad chilly out there. Snow in my neck of the woods in Timperley, south Manchester is always a big deal.

But despite the freezing conditions, there’s no doubting the temperature will be piping hot in the extreme come 12.30pm this afternoon.

With so much at stake, two in-form teams colliding and Manchester bragging rights up for grabs, it should be an occasion to savour.

Can’t tell you how much I am looking forward to this one.

Should be special.

The calm before the storm
