From our journalist Jonathan Smith at the City Ground 💬

It’s unusual for us to not have an Academy player in the starting line-up these days, but Phil Foden, Nico O’Reilly and Rico Lewis are all ready to make an impact from the bench.

Meanwhile, Forest have two gifted former City EDS players in their team in James McAtee and Liam Delap.

McAtee looks like he will be playing a little further forward than he has done in recent weeks while Delap will try to make it a physical battle.

But I’m sure Rúben Dias is more than ready for a scrap.

Flashback 📷

Trevor Francis sits in the Maine Road stands with manager John Bond after signing for City from Forest in September 1981.

City fans were excited to see the striker in a sky blue shirt and he quickly made his mark.

More than 10,000 supporters travelled to Stoke City to see his debut and he scored twice in a 3-1 victory.

Francis played for City during the 1981/82 season, making 29 appearances and scoring 14 goals.

However, he was sold to Italian side Sampdoria after less than a year following the 1982 World Cup in Spain.

Opposition View: Glasner wants positive City Ground atmosphere

Oliver Glasner has called on home fans to create a positive and enthusiastic atmosphere under the City Ground lights.

Forest have yet to win a game at the City Ground this season and have suffered defeat in four of the last five games.

The manager believes the crowd can play a part in turning things around in tonight’s 17:30 (UK) kick-off.

“These kind of games, Saturday evening, already dark under the floodlights, then hosting the most successful team of the last decade in English football is what we all want,” he said.

“The players, the coaches and the fans are always looking forward to these types of games.

“I’m asking our fans to come here with a lot of positivity and enthusiasm to enjoy Saturday evening football under the lights.

“I know we can count on them, let’s create an atmosphere together that makes it really tough for City to play against. We all know it’s football, but I can promise the players will leave their hearts on the pitch to get this win and celebrate with the fans afterwards.”

Flashback 📷

Josko Gvardiol leaps high to celebrate the opening goal in a 2-0 City win at Forest in April 2024.

In Pep Guardiola’s 300th top-flight game in charge, Gvardiol headed us into an interval lead while substitute Erling Haaland, returning to the side after two games out injured, made sure of the points with a clinical finish after the break.

The results ensured that City went into our final four matches just one point behind Arsenal but with a game in hand as we looked to win the title for a record four successive seasons.
