Enzo Maresca post-match verdict 👇

On the game

“Overall, it was a good performance.

“With 11 v 11, we had a gameplan that with the red card completely changed.

“I think it was more difficult for us but also them.

“With 10 players, we didn’t concede any transitions or space in behind and that’s something they love.”

On the second half plan

“The idea in the second half to have Iliman, Antoine and Erling was that in the moment we recover the ball, we need to attack.

“As much as we can keep the ball, keep it. If we just run, the second half would be very long.

“If we want to compete, we need the entire squad.

“It’s not just about 11 players. Ili and Nico were very good. We also have Ayyoub, Mateo and others ready to go if we needed.”

On the support from the away fans

“The noise from the fans was fantastic.

“At the end it was emotion for the game with 10 players.

“The derby is always special for fans, the staff, the players and everyone.”

Elliot Anderson post-match verdict 👇

On calling City Kings of Manchester

“We are now!

“We always knew it would be a tough game. Losing Phil at the start wasn’t good for us but we said at half time it would make us feel better to win. We took the three points.

On going down to 10 men

“It gives you more motivation to go and get the points.

“It was really tough for us. We had to run more and fight more.

“We all shone to a man and we were brilliant.”

On relishing these types of games

“All of our midfield do.

“Me and Enzo love to fight, tackle and get on the ball and play.

“We gave it our all today and everyone was brilliant.”

On it being a big step forward

“It was my first Manchester derby and to start it like that is brilliant.

“It’s a new era here and starting here with a win in this game is amazing.

“We’re all really happy.”

Erling Haaland post-match verdict 👇

On the result

“It hasn’t happened a lot in my lifetime to go down to 10 men so it’s kind of a new experience to win with 10 men.

“It’s amazing to be honest. We had to lay low, which is not ideal because we like to keep the ball and like to try and score goals.

“These times you have to go low and take your chances when possible and we managed to do it well.

“This shows personality and character to keep the ball, away at Old Trafford with 10 men. That is personality.

“We had to change the plan a bit and we played a bit differently to our strengths.

“For me I have to be there for the chance, to execute.

“And we need fighters in the team, look at our team. I’m super happy with everyone and so proud of everyone.”

On his goal

“I looked at the gaffer and he gave me a thumbs up so I knew it was a goal and prepared to go and celebrate.

“This is one of the better feelings because of the occasion and 10 men, especially for how long at Old Trafford, it’s a difficult task.

“To do that with 10 men is so nice and for the fans how they enjoyed themselves. The look on the face of the supporters is great to see.”

On Donnarumma’s last-gasp save

“What a save! What a keeper he is.

“This wolf in the goal, he looks a bit like a wolf, to have him in goal gives you so much confidence.

“We’re so lucky to have him.”
