New English record!

Tonight’s victory over Young Boys extended our unbeaten run in Europe to 18 matches, too – a new record for English sides.

We move beyond the current West Ham team, who lost in the Europa League last time out to end a 17-match run that had already eclipsed Chelsea (2019), Leeds (1968) and Tottenham Hotspur (1972).

Well done City!

💯 up!

City’s 3-0 win over Young Boys at the Etihad Stadium tonight was also our 100th in major European competitions.

Having taken 183 matches, we are the second quickest of the six English sides to reach the century of wins.

52 of those victories have come under the watch of current boss Pep Guardiola, who guided us to our maiden Champions League triumph last season.

Liverpool are the quickest English side to win 100 times in Europe, taking 170 games, while we have narrowly pipped Tottenham Hotspur to the post, with the North London club needing 184 fixtures.

The remaining English sides are Manchester United (191), Chelsea (192) and Arsenal (209).

11 times in succession! 🔥

Our victory tonight over Young Boys ensures we’ve made it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League for the 11th successive season.

Congratulations to Pep and the team on this hugely impressive milestone.

Full-Time

The Champions of Europe cruised past Young Boys 3-0 to ensure progress into the knockout phases of the 2023/24 competition.

Goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Phil Foden saw off the Swiss side in front of 51,049 at the Etihad, meaning we’ve made into February’s Round of 16 with two games still to play.

Sub for Young Boys...

Late sub for the visitors.

Ugrinic off. Males on.

Nunes lets fly...

Nunes teed up beautifully there by Grealish.

Central position.

But his handsome effort is too high to trouble the keeper.

From our journalist David Clayton at City v Young Boys 💬

Should Young Boys get one back before full-time – and it’s hard to see how that might happen given they’re a man down – it would mean all three of our Group G fixtures had ended by a scoreline of 3-1.

Probably more likely we’ll score the next goal having said that!

Danger man Doku...

Doku straight into the action.

Motors down the left, crosses to Grealish who connects into the path of Nunes but the midfielder can't get it on target.

Could - and should - have been four there.

Sub for City...

Jeremy Doku, Saturday's hero against Bournemouth, is on for Mateo Kovacic, who's excelled in the middle ground this evening.

Earlier, on 78 minutes, Ganvoula and Persson replaced Garcia and Elia.
