Classic Erling

The second demonstration of Haaland's unbelievable strength was the way he shrugged off Jarrad Branthwaite before completing his brace.

Incredible power

There were two extreme examples of Haaland's strength in his two goals.

The first was this shot, hit so hard and true that Jordan Pickford had no chance.

Erling Haaland on TNT Sports 💬

Back on the scoresheet?

It’s a good feeling, just to play again as well and to start at home, of course it is a good feeling and it is an amazing feeling to win the game. It’s true, the club has won ten games in a row now. I’ve been practicing on my right foot a bit the past few months.

De Bruyne pass?

I try to do the same but with him it’s a bit more like I know I’m going to get it perfect. I know the ball is going to come. You can see I don’t even look at the ball for two seconds when he has it because I’m focusing on running towards the goal. That’s the difference, nothing bad towards other players, but it’s the small difference of knowing that the ball will come.

John Stones on the clean sheet 🗣

Really pleased. Our mentality never changes. Football is so difficult and there are so many different variables. Our mindset is always the same, we go into the game wanting a clean sheet. We work hard on the training pitch to get a clean sheet with how we set up and work for each other. Sometimes, football means we can’t stop certain things but today was one of the good ones. Hopefully we can keep that going.

John Stones on TNT Sports 💬

Hard fought?

Definitely. We’ve had some tough games against Everton home and away. So to get three points in the fashion we did, clean sheet as well, was really pleasing. Especially after the first half which was so difficult for us to find spaces and chances. For the second half we tweaked a few things and ended up with the win.

Was patience the key?

Yeah, it is. We’re used to playing against a low block. We’ve been in this position so many times now, patience is a massive thing for us, to keep moving the ball and to not get frustrated, and trusting in our game plan, which is what we do. We changed a few things which helped massively. We opened up the game and took our chances.

Brilliant Belgian 🌟

Kevin De Bruyne has been involved in 23 goals across his last 23 appearances for Manchester City in all competitions (6 goals, 17 assists), either scoring (1 goal) or assisting (6) in six of his eight games this term.

His 12 assists for Erling Haaland is the most of any Premier League player for a specific teammate in all competitions since the start of last season.

14:51

Persistence

We scored with our first shot on target in this game in the 71st minute.

That's our longest wait for an attempt on target in a Premier League match since September 2021 vs Southampton (90th minute).
