Soccer Schools, After School Football Provision & Walking Football

The Community Football programme takes City in the Community to the heart of communities across Greater Manchester through open access football sessions in evenings, weekends and school holidays.

Project Summary:
Soccer Schools, Player Development Centres and Walking Football sessions provide activity across Greater Manchester for participants aged from 5 to 75 years old.


Project Objective:
Community Football uses the brand of Manchester City to engage participants in open access football, increasing physical activity through regular sessions in communities across the city. Through Soccer Schools, participants are provided with free sessions as well as food provision to tackle holiday hunger in the most deprived areas of the city.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Increase levels of physical activity.
  • Contribute to safer, more cohesive communities.
  • Participants have improved interpersonal relationships.



Project Need:
  • Over 35% of young people in Manchester live in poverty.
  • 59% of respondents to a National Education Union survey said that children in their school experienced holiday hunger.
