Your first match

View all discussions

We'd love to hear all about the first City match – whether it was at the stadium, at a screening event or on TV at home.

So, have a think and tell us:

  • Who were City playing?
  • How old were you?
  • Who did you go with?
  • What do you remember about the day?
  • How was the game?

If you have any pictures from the day, it'd be great to see them!

I want to buy tickets to Man City vs Man United March 05 2022...but it says , 3 fixtures , restriction...Does this mean, i can never buy a ticket ever? or its a Priority thing , and it will open up later to people with Cityzen, and then General Public.?

I wanted to say thank you to Man City for u-turning on this issue, there would have been a big void in my life without City but I would have stuck to my decision not to support them, if this had gone through.

My last match I watched was seeing City capitulate to Chelsea. I've supported City for 53 years and if the Super League comes to fruition, I won't be supporting them any longer. Greed is not good, everyone involved should hang their heads in shame, particularly in this Covid state of emergency where hundreds of thousands of people have died around the World. This will also be the death of the Cityzens Forum, who wants to be a part of a greed driven initiative where the only eligibility criteria is the potential to generate revenue that only a few will benefit from. Another capitulation and a very sad day for football.

First match? How about a discussion on our last match? Getting into bed with the cartel for the Super League - you can kiss goodbye to my 37 years of support along with all of my family. Not a penny more from me - we're officially scum now 😔👋

Well today's (27 Feb) game v West Ham brings back my memories of my first visit to Maine Rd- 8 September 1962, aged 9. Though from the very red area of Flixton I was in awe of the Bert Trautmann legend and eventually persuaded my dad to take me to see City play. I was overwhelmed by the colours of the pitch, the sky blue of City shirts, the claret of West Ham, and a really sunny day. The result? Umm 6-1 to West Ham with Bert sent off after the 3rd for whacking the ball into the back of the referee. The following week was my first visit to Old Trafford- Utd 2 City 3-Yes!!! 8 September 2012 was a Saturday but a non-playing day and I had a 50th anniversary tour round the Eitihad. Next year it will be 60 years!

Hello my name is Debbie, I'm from Jamaica. i can't remember my first game for City, however, my most memorable is the one against QPR where we won the title. i was at home getting ready to go to church but couldn't leave b4 the game was over (fyi i was late for church) my favorite player is Ballotelli (why always me)🙄 so funny. Awesome victory but it was sweeter cuz i lived at the time beside a United supporter so the noise was really loud other neighbours were wondering what was going on between us (lol) 😂

My first match was 5th March 1966 City v Leicester I was 10 year old and was taken by my best friends brithers, ( this went against the grain in our house as my dad and uncles were all reds in principal ).we went on a maynes match coach from Clayton it was the most defining day of my life the ground was packed 56,756 attendance and we went into the Kippax stand because the ground was that packed they were passing young children over the wall to sit around the edge of the pitch I was one of them kids lucky enough to sit round the edge of the pitch (wouldn't happen these days) at half time we were getting beat 0-2 but a brilliant second half display saw Neil Young score 2 goals and we drew 2-2 at the end of the game the youngsters run on the pitch and I got to touch and congratulate niel young from that day I was hooked and have been a city fan and season ticket holder for many years after getting my first season ticket when I was 16. And because I was the oldest of 8 I managed to fetch up all my brothers and sisters as city supporters I even managed to change my dads from from a red

The first time I saw City was the televised FA Cup final against Newcastle. (Indeed, the first match I saw on TV). We didn't have a set, but I helped on a bread round on Saturdays and the driver invited me to watch with his family. My one memory was of poor Jimmy Meadows whose leg was broken. City then progressed in the Cup in the next season, beating Birmingham in the final. After that I became a fanatical supporter and still am, despite all the ups and downs over the years!
