Guardiola full of praise for team player Jesus

Pep Guardiola insists Gabriel Jesus is constantly improving, and that his importance at Manchester City goes beyond simply scoring goals.

The Brazilian found the back of the net in City’s 2-0 Champions League last 16 first leg win over Borussia Monchengladbach, stabbing home from Bernardo Silva’s headed cutback after the hour.

But speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham's visit to the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola stressed that Jesus’ overall role in the team deserves more appreciation.

“The aspect for Gabriel is because he is so generous. He always thinks of the team not himself.

“When you see what he gives us and what he produces, I don't have anything to say, he is young and he will improve.”

While the City boss is delighted by Jesus’ contribution to our success so far this season, Guardiola added that he believes the best is yet to come from the Brazilian.

In particular, he expects the 23-year-old’s clinical nature in front of goal to develop as he gets more experience under his belt.

He said: “His composure, he will take a half second more to beat the keeper - it will come like a good wine.

“I like the way he is. Just be calm in front of the goal and he will learn it. He is so young, he will learn it. “
