Guardiola: Haaland is inspired by titles rather than goals

Pep Guardiola says that silverware and titles rather than goals and individual acclaim are what is driving Erling Haaland in the wake of his second successive Premier League hat-trick.

The City striker bagged another brilliant treble as City beat Nottingham Forest 6-0 at the Etihad as he followed suit from last Saturday’s hat-trick against Crystal Palace.

It took his overall tally for the season to nine – the most any player has scored in the Premier League in August.

But for City boss Guardiola, he believes that what inspires Haaland most is the collective rather than the individual.

“I think what he wants is to win the titles. This is my feeling of what he wants. If the records and goals help that then good,” Guardiola declared.

“Records and goals don’t win titles, I think he wants to be part of that.

"When we bought Erling, everybody spoke about what he had done in the past.

“What we want to do is to help him continue what he has done in Norway, Austria and Germany. Hopefully he can continue to enjoy the game.

“I don’t want him to get niggles so we do substitutions otherwise he would score more goals, I am sure.”
