The Portuguese international has been one of City’s standout performers in an impressive start to the 2021-22 campaign, playing the full 90 minutes in each of our nine Premier League outings.
Defensive responsibilities aside, his attacking contributions have also made an impact, grabbing two Champions League goals as well as an assist in our vital 1-0 win away to Chelsea.
But with the fixtures coming thick and fast, Cancelo’s ability to operate on either flank will perhaps be one of his most vital assets for Pep Guardiola and the rest of the team.
And the defender insists that this particular string to his bow demonstrates the personal progress he has made under the City boss.
“I’ve grown up as a right back, but I like to be versatile and during the year we will always have injuries,” Cancelo said.
“I like to be proactive in the team, I like to adapt to whatever position my manager puts me in.
“Pep (Guardiola) has been helping me a lot in this aspect. Nowadays I feel that I’m a better player mentally, physically and tactically.
“I try to do my best to adapt and help the team with the objectives.”
