Davies reacts to Arsenal defeat

REACTION: Simon Davies reflects on City's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

REACTION: Simon Davies reflects on City's 1-0 defeat to Arsenal.

Simon Davies has reflected on Manchester City’s 1-0 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League 2.

The game was fought in tough wintery conditions at the Academy stadium, and the EDS were unable to make it onto the score sheet.

While the City boss has praised Arsenal for their performance he believes that City weren’t aggressive enough on the ball.

“As a whole I didn’t think we performed as well as we’ve been doing recently,” Davies told ManCity.com. “I was quite surprised by the urgency in the team – we played against a really good team and probably the best team we’ve played this season in terms of the way they moved the ball.

“They were probably a team that if we’d put the pressure on in the right way you could get hurt and bypassed as they’ve got the quality to do that.

“I thought the score line actually did us a favour actually as I thought they were a couple more goals better than us on Sunday.

“In general, I thought there were moments when we could’ve done something in terms of score-line but I think the general feeling is that we weren’t aggressive enough without the ball and we lacked a little bit of quality - when you’re playing against a team like Arsenal at any level that can make a real difference.”

Rabbi Matondo spoke about the tough conditions on Sunday afternoon, and has explained that the snow made the challenge more difficult.

“It was tough, as obviously the conditions didn’t help and they were a good side,” the winger said after the match. “There wasn’t much we could do but everyone tried really hard so that’s all we can take.

“We played against probably the best team this season and it’s good for us to have challenges like that.

“It’s good for us to know we can play against teams like that, and we only lost 1-0 and that shows that we will be able to beat other teams.”
