Jill Scott says there’s an intense rivalry developing between Manchester City and Chelsea.
The two teams have occupied the top two spots in the WSL for the past three seasons – and go head-to-head on Sunday in the opening match of the new campaign.
And Scott, fresh from helping England qualify for next summer’s World Cup, says the competitiveness between the two sets of players is increasing year on year.
“There is definitely a rivalry,” Scott said. “When you step on the pitch, it is like you are going to war.
"I have a couple of good friends [Chelsea players] off the pitch, but you don’t talk about football.
“It’s not just about technical ability, you have to have the fight and desire and I think that is getting stronger every year.”

Nick Cushing has made five summer signings in a bid to bolster his options.
And Scott says she has been impressed with all them, both in terms of their technical quality and attitude.
"They have fitted in very well and are very good characters," she said.
"That is what they are trying to sign at this club: good people. That is important, you are around each other every day.
"Tessa is a really good character, fitted in really well. She has a real passion to win, even in a 3v3 in training she wants to win.
"Gemma Bonner brings vast amount of experience playing in the top league, I have played against her for years. She brings so much experience and has been captain [elsewhere].
"Janine hasn’t been here very long but is technically very good, in good physical shape, so excited to see what she can do.
"We all know what Caroline Weir can do, give her the ball and she is probably going to put it in the top corner from 30 yards! Over the years it has been making sure you stop her shooting, so now it is nice to have her on the same team and encourage her to get some shots in and hopefully some goals.
"I am excited to get the signings in. It means you can’t have a bad training sessionbecause it means you won’t play at the weekend."
