Nick Cushing has explained that City's clash against Lyon shows our new signings the level expected at the club.
The boss spoke after his side's 3-0 defeat at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, and stated how he was pleased with his new arrivals.
While Lauren Hemp is currently away with the England Under-20s, the rest of our new recruits: Caroline Weir, Gemma Bonner and Tessa Wullaert are all making their mark on the squad.
Cushing explained how the changes in the league meant in was essential to bring in such players.
"I think we've had a stable squad and a consistent team over the past four years but we know the way the league has changed, so bringing in Caroline Weir and Gemma Bonner and being able to put them on the pitch is really pleasing," Nick said in his post-match press conference. "Tessa Wullaert got 60 mins today and these type of games shows them the level we expect.
"There is an expectation from our team. I don't think we played at the intensity of our normal game but maybe we could blame heat - although Lyon are from a European country as well so that's not not really an excuse.
"We've got work to do and naturally they're new but I'm really pleased they've got minutes and really pleased that we can move onto the next game and get them them some more minutes to get them closer to our game."
