New signing Riyad Mahrez believes the strength of Manchester City’s squad will help bring out the best in him.
The Algerian international winger officially joined the Club from Leicester City earlier this week, signing a five-year deal.
Mahrez has joined a squad already packed with top-quality talent as illustrated by City’s record-breaking 2017/18 season which saw the Club win both the Premier League title and Carabao Cup.
However, the 27-year-old believes the fact that he will be working alongside such a talented group of players will only help further develop his own individual game.
And he believes the fierce competition for places at the Etihad Stadium will be a key component in helping drive the Club's quest for sustained long-term success – both domestically and in the Champions League.
“Every big club has great players. Competition is part of the football. It is good because everyone can improve - yourself and the squad, it’s perfect,” Riyad told the press.
“The most important thing is that I will give my best to help the club to achieve. Give quality to the team if everyone gives quality, we can make something.”
Mahrez also spoke about his excitement at the prospect of working under manager Pep Guardiola, who made no secret of his long-held desire to bring the Algerian to Manchester.
“He’s a big manager and won a lot of things,” Riyad added. “He made history at this club. I wanted to work under him and to play in this club. I didn’t hesitate at all. He wanted me.”
