Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has expressed his sadness at the news 71 people, including 19 Chapecoense players and coaching staff, were killed in a plane crash in Colombia on Monday.
The chartered aircraft, which was carrying the team, technical staff, sports journalists and crew, crashed near Medellin while on its way to the Copa Sudamericana final.
It’s an event that has shocked the football world – and Fernandinho, who knew two of the casualties, has sent a message of support to the victims.
He said: “Me personally, I knew two people there. I worked with them, one in the national team and one was my manager when I started playing football and, of course, this week was very, very sad for me.
“I want to pray for the families because it’s not easy in a situation like that.
“I sent some messages to the families to show my support for them.”
